Brief Summary
The primary responsibility of the End Prep Operator is to remove excess burrs from the ends of tubes and visually inspect tubes to ensure product quality. Using a handheld grinder, rotary file, and other tools, the End Prep Operator deburrs the I.D. and O.D. and rolls the tubing across a rack to the straightener. The position is also responsible for following all Valmont safety policies and procedures and maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
Essential Functions
- Operate a rotary file, bay flex grinder, or other tools to deburr the I.D. and O.D. ends of steel tubes
- Visually inspect tubing for mill marks, straightness, dents and dings, and other visible defects
- Operate groover, straightener, and oiler to produce quality tubing
- Roll tubing across a rack to straightener
- Use tape measure as needed to ensure tubes meet required quality specifications
- Wear all required PPE and follow all applicable safety policies
- Work with team members to share information and contribute to an effective operation
- Assist on the mill with setups when changing tube sizes
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years relevant work experience in a production environment
- Ability to read and write legibly
- Must be able to read a tape measure including fractions
- Ability to operate air and electric powered hand tools such as a grinder or rotary file
- Sufficient communication skills to interact with other team members to maintain an effective operation
- Ability to stand and/or walk 95% of the time
- Ability to remain alert and comply with all safety requirements
Highly Qualified
- Ability to operator a forklift
